(The original premise: "Mainly banter, slightly rambling reminiscences, a little bit political, slightly cultural and a touch of publicity for my bar in Brittany".)

Ambiance positive acceptée, ambiance negative rejetée.
(Positive ambience accepted, negative ambience rejected).
Le mot clé est 'convivialité' - 'Conviviality' is the key word.
Degustation, appreciation, conversation, tout en écoutant la musique.

Up in smoke

Regrettably my Pub 'Tavarn Ty Elise', a little bar in the Breton countryside between Uhelgoad (Huelgoat) & Karaez (Carhaix), (Bro Gerne) Finistere, Breizh/Llydaw/Brittany/Bretagne burned down in the early hours of friday February 19, 2010. Thirty years of my life up in smoke, but in spite of that the phoenix has risen again and the red dragon is back.

It's CLICshot #3 y'all

Salutations! This is issue number three of CLICshot, your weekly update on the good stuff. Everything on CLIC and its network is for and by young people in Wales. All of the news, all of the views. This little shot is here to keep you in the loop, so you don't miss a thing.

If you've seen something we've overlooked, send it my way (sam@thesprout.co.uk) and it'll be in the next CLICshot. Promise... well maybe.

The Participation Rap

From the Bronx block parties of Cool Herc in the late 70s , through the East Coast g-funk of Dre and Snoop, to the Vale Of Glamorgan in 2010, rap has certainly come along way.

But GLC are from Newport not the Vale you cry! We're not denying that, as that is a fact, but while Goldie Lookin' Chain once were synonymous with Welsh rap music, The Participation Rap is the new face of it.

Made by a group of students from Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg with the help from amongst others Community Music Wales, the V-Pod (see below) and the marvellously monikered Ve Van de Voorde, The Participation Rap is a bilingual tour-de-force, charged with spreading the word about the UNCRC (United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child) and young peoples' rights in Wales.

The video was launched last week with this edition's CLICshot star Keith Towler (see below).

Featured News

I'm Keith Towler

The lucky peeps of Wicid.tv, our friends in Rhondda Cynon Taff, were graced with the presence of Keith Towler for one afternoon in Pontypridd Library. You may not know who Keith Towler is, indeed Wicid succinctly titled their article Who?, but you should as he is the Children's Commissioner For Wales. He's your commissioner. Find out what the Wicid crew thought of him by clicking here.

The V-Pod

Like a boomerang with a penchant for Barry Island, we can't help returning to The Vale of Glamorgan. The V-Pod is like an iPod except it can't fit in your pocket, for it is a bus, and while it can play music, it also has a whole heap of other good things going on inside it. PS3s, X-Box 360s, LCD TV's, iMacs, decks, fancy-pants lighting... there's even a skate park that it tows along behind it. Take that Steve Jobs!

This thing needs to be seen to be believed. Check Swoosh's events calendar for where and when this bonkers bus will stop.

Y Rap Cyfranogi

O bartïon bloc y Broncs gan Cool Herc yn y 70au hwyr, trwy'r g-ffync Arfordir Dwyreiniol gan Dre a Snoop, i Fro Morgannwg yn 2010, mae rap wedi dod yn bell iawn.

Ond o Gasnewydd mae GLC nid Bro Morgannwg dwi'n clywed ti'n bloeddio! Nid oes gwadu hynna, gan ei fod yn ffaith, ond tra roedd Goldie Lookin' Chain unwaith yn gyfystyr â cherddoriaeth rap Cymraeg, y Rap Cyfranogi ydy'r wyneb newydd.

Wedi'i greu gan griw o fyfyrwyr o Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg gyda chymorth gan rai fel Cerddoriaeth Cymunedol Cymru, y V-Pod (gweler isod) a'r un gyda'r enw gwych, Ve Van de Voorde, mae'r Rap Cyfranogi yn 'tour-de-force' dwyieithog, gyda'r nod o ledu'r neges am yr CCUHP (Confensiwn y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau'r Plentyn) a hawliau pobl ifanc yng Nghymru.

Cafodd y fideo ei lansio wythnos diwethaf gyda seren y CLICshot hwn, Keith Towler (gweler isod).

Newyddion Blaenllaw

Cyfarfod Keith Towler

Mae'r bobl lwcus o Wicid.tv, ein ffrindiau yn Rhondda Cynon Taf, wedi cael y pleser o gwmni Keith Towler am y prynhawn yn Llyfrgell Pontypridd. Efallai nad wyt ti yn gwybod pwy ydy Keith Towler, sy'n esbonio'r teitl cryno i'r erthygl Pwy?, ond fe ddylet wybod gan mai o ydy'r Comisiynydd Plant i Gymru. Fo ydy dy gomisiynydd di. I ddarganfod beth oedd Wicid yn feddwl ohono clicia yma.

Y V-Pod

Fel bwmerang sydd â hoffter o Ynys y Barri, ni fedra ninnau faddau mynd yn ôl at Bro Morgannwg. Mae'r V-Pod fel iPod ond nid yw'n ffitio yn dy boced, gan mai bws ydyw ef, a tra mae'n chwarae cerddoriaeth, mae hefyd efo nifer o bethau eraill da yn digwydd tu fewn iddo. PS3s, X-Box 360s, Teledu LCD, i-macs, deciau, goleuadau ffansi… mae hyd yn oed parc sglefrio yn cael ei dynnu tu ôl iddo. Be ti'n feddwl o hynna Steve Jobs?

Mae'n rhaid i ti weld y peth i'w gredu. Edrycha ar galendr digwyddiadau Swoosh am ble a phryd bydd y bws gwallgof yma yn stopio.

"If they decide to unite," he said, "they would be completely invincible. This nation would be fortunate....if they could accept one prince, and he a good one." - Gerallt Cymro (Giraldus Cambrensis)

The result was that the king, Henry II, with his mighty army, was forced to retreat, and in his anger he blinded his hostages and burned the churches.

Putting the Record Straight

At a time when the vast majority of the French abandoned their fate into the hands of Marshall Pétin, many Bretons chose, and that as early as 1940, to go to England to continue the fight. At the end of 1940 the Bretons made up 70% of the resistance while Brittany only comprises 7% of the French population. The resistance went on to attract more and more men and women, yet at the end of 1943, only six months before the Normandy landings, the Bretons still represented 40% of the Free French. This is not to forget the resistance in Brittany itself, a vast uprising of the whole people, which retained many German troops in the peninsula, for these, had they been allowed to reach the Normandy front, would have pushed the Allies back to sea. It is also thanks to the Bretons that France, whose authorities had massively collaborated with Nazi Germany from 1940 to 1944, could recover her honour. The brutal repression which was triggered after D-Day against all forms of Bretonness, seems all the more disgraceful. Bernard Le Nail

Joseph Parry worshipped in this chapel as a young boy before going "off to Philadelphia in the morning". One day I received a note from Margaret Roberts, Emrys's wife asking me to volunteer to help to clean it out, which I was happy to do. Later on John Jenkins had an office there and I used to go down to see him for a chat at lunch time."
